이틀전 10월 20일 Jay-Z의 내한 공연이 있었다. 공연을 보지 못한 본인은 후기라도 보면 괜히 배가 아플까봐 -_- 매일같이 체크하는 힙플, 리드머같은 힙합 커뮤니티 사이트를 그날만큼은 찾아가지 않았다나 뭐라나. 어쨋건 뉴욕의 왕은 12시간의 짧은 체류를 끝으로 한국을 떠났다. 내한 공연소식과 더불어 계속 말이 끊이지않던 Jay-Z의 새로운 앨범 Kingdom Come 의 트랙리스트와 프로듀서 진이 공개되었다. Jay-Z 가 새앨범 작업에 대한 짧은 코멘트도 기사화 되었는데,
"전 1주일, 아니 2주일을 스튜디오에서 보냈어요. 아무것도 하지 않으려 했죠."
"처음에는 그렇게 내키지 않았어요. '그래.. 아마 난 이걸 하지 않을거야' 라고 말했죠.
하지만 1주일 뒤에 6곡을 받았어요. '그래 바로 지금이야'라고 생각했죠.
서두르지도 압박을 받지도 않았어요. 각각의 곡들이 저번것들 보다 더 좋게 나왔죠.
이건 아주 쉬웠어요. 전 아이디어의 홍수로 가득찼었죠. 마치 '바로 지금이야' 같았죠"
가사를 머리속에 한가득 넣고다니는 Jay-Z 다운 코멘트이다. 앨범 참여 프로듀서진을 보면 쌍도끼 마냥 Jay-Z를 보좌하는 전속? 프로듀서 Just Blaze 와 Kanye West 를 필두로, 메인스트림을 주름잡는 Dr.Dre, Timberland, The Neptunes 와 99 Problems 의 Rick Rubin 까지 대박 예약이라고 하기에 부끄러움이 없는 구성이다. 프로듀서도 대단하지만, Jay-Z의 새앨범 Kingdom Come 에서 가장 주목을 끄는 포인트는 Dead Presidents Pt. III (Feat. Nas)일것이다. 오랜 Diss 를 끝내고 손을 잡은 불세출의 MC들의 콜라보, 더군다나 트랙제목은 Jay-Z 초기 명곡으로 꼽히는 Dead Presidents Pt. II 의 후속인 Dead Presidents Pt. III 라니.. 기대를 안할래야 안할수가 없는 제목아닌가. 앨범 발매를 한달여 앞둔 지금, 첫싱글로 Just Blaze 프로듀싱의 Show Me What You Got 이 릴리즈 되었는데샘플을 어디서 따왔는지 모르겠지만, Black Album 의 Encore 마냥 확 와닿는 느낌이랄까. 새 앨범에 목빠질듯 기다리는 팬들의 갈증을 잠시나마 풀어주기에는 충분한 곡이었다.

Jay-Z가 The Black Album 을 마지막으로 은퇴한다고 했을때 아깝다는 생각은 했지만, 말은 은퇴라고 하고선, 끊임없는 대외 활동?을 펼치는것을 보고선 저러다 언젠가 새얼범 내겠지라고 내심 안도?했었던 기억이 난다. 은퇴번복이라고 태클 걸 사람도 없겠지만, 어느분의 말씀처럼, 살아서 전설을 만들어가는 힙합씬의 유일무이한 사나이가 다시 앨범을 낸다는건 (제목부터가 Kingdom Come 이니..) 리스너로써 쌍수를 들어 환영할일이 아닌가 생각한다.
